Sun takes center stage in India’s climate change plan

The BBC reports:

“In this strategy, the sun occupies centre stage, as it should, being literally the original source of all energy.

“We will pool all our scientific, technical and managerial talents, with financial sources, to develop solar energy as a source of abundant energy to power our economy and to transform the lives of our people,” Mr Singh said.

“Our success in this endeavour will change the face of India.”

The action plan, however, makes no commitment to cut India’s carbon emissions.

This is the right focus. If India replicates its success in space science, then it will be a sun powered future for India. And rightly, it does not make any commitment to cut carbon emissions. More at Reuters.

I wanted to share some of the interesting news items that I find everyday with the readers of the blog. I used to share that through a RSS feed from Delicious on the website. Using Diigo, which is an amazing collaborative bookmarking tool, I have started this week to post the links to the weblog automatically.

It generally would have a link to the article, an excerpt from the article and any comments that I would make.

Tesla Motors California Announcement by the Governator

Tesla Motors, the newest car company creating only zero-emission cars decides to start building their cars in California.

Check out the announcement by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Some great comments on green jobs, inspiration, innovation and government incentives for clean tech companies.

As I suggested before, Tesla is building a premium car because that is the best way to enter the market considering the constraints of technology, economics etc. Tesla wants to build a mass market electric car in the coming years.

    • Both are in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area peppered with volcanoes and home to the world’s biggest reservoir of geothermal power.

“When I think of Indonesia and energy, I think geothermal. Indonesia has more than 500 volcanoes, of which 130 are active,” Lester Brown, president of the Washington-based Earth Policy Institute, told CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets in a speech in June.

    • While the study acknowledges that there is potential to extend taxation in the area of natural resource management to other sectors, it also reflects that the four countries surveyed in the report have achieved mixed results. Italy and the Czech Republic showed weak evidence of improved landscape following the introduction of the tax, whereas Sweden has succeeded in reducing demand for natural gravel — an invaluable resource to guarantee groundwater quality.
