Attention 3 Customers Australia!!!!

Further to the netowork issue with the Nokia E71-3 , (not being able to choose GSM and only roaming on telstra 3g) I have been informed today by 3 Customer Care and Technical services that my fone is not suited to roam on Telstras Network and that after 3 months of continuous complaining they can only offer me a $25 credit to my account, no cancellation or different handset for there mistake and non help in the last 3 months. NOT GOOD ENOUGH 3. I have been mislead like hundreds of other 3 customers.

I was told that I would get a better service then my previous gsm roaming service. I can assure you that this is not the case and I will be taking this matter to the ACCC and DEPT OF FAIR TRAIDING as I have been mislead by 3;s advertising and sales staff.

My mate has E71-3 with telstra and he has full reception where ever he goes in Newcastle, I use to when i was roaming on the Telstra gsm network but since i updated my fone to the 3 E71-3 I cannot lock it into GSM as this has been removed by the fone and I get poor coverage in Newcastle.

My mate can be standing next to me with full reception and i get 1 or 2 bars if lucky. This is what i found out:

I was told by a Telstra Rep that 3 customers roaming on the Telstra 3g network will have access to 40% and this is why I have not been getting good signal from my handset because I will not be getting the same service as a Telstra Customer would. I would strongly recommend if anyther 3 customer is having the same issue when roaming outside 3s network to please email me or reply to me.

Cheers

I have to check out the CISCO client. I have seen that E71 does not seamlessly handle moving from Wifi to 3G or vice versa. That's my biggest gripe.

You forgot to mention Nokia's Mail For Exchange email client. This app. reliably and securely synchronises email, contacts, calendar and to do items with an Exchange server via the connection type you choose (normally 3G internet). Also regarding VoIP, Cisco have an SIP client for this handset (and other compatible Nokia devices) which enables use via a wireless network. So you can use the SIP client on the handset across a wireless network then cut across to the 3G network without losing the call if required (ie. if you walk out of range of the wireless network).

Hi Suhit,

Thanx for the review mate. Blackberry Bold in now available on 3. I got BB Bold yesterday and I am loving it. Browsing is good on the built in browser. I am gonna try Opera Mini today. It increases your productivuty two folds. It has got good IM and Web 2.0 capabilities. Downside is there is no proper Acrobat reader. I found out a third party solution yet to try. I like the video and music on this phone.

Has been waiting for iPhone all these days. After seeing it everywhere I go and playing with it, I decided this is not my type. Too much noise will all those good for nothing apps. Checkout the data plan on 3 for BB. 3 Gig Data and Unlimited Email what more can you ask.

Cheers

I've just got a E71 , I got my contacts from my blackberry phone by using my previous phones software to sync/backup contacts, (calender & notes too), to outlook. Then I installed the nokia e71 software & synched it to outlook & all of the info was copied from outlook to the e71 perfectly

I'm loving the google maps & in built maps on the phone. It works like a car gps system & it moves with you & gives directions & travel routes. i used it on a train & the satellites gave full 3d satellite view of my whole journey from above, with surrounding streets with names

Also the great option of picking random wireless , or ,your own phone network internet is great. Pick unlocked wlan points when your out & i use my home wireless at home . Its also great that u can use the phone as a pc modem, so i dont have to pay for a dongle as well as a phone.

Skype is also free on 3, but try to get a short contract & get them to write everything agreed on the contract.

The main function of my phone is push email. From what I have read on reviews this phone supports proper push for Exchange which is fine (I am admin for our work exchange server), but for my personal email I use IMAP via push. Is it correct that natively this phone only supports scheduled updates, not proper push?

Suhit Anantula,
If you sign up for a free Zyb account :-

http://www.zyb.com/

You can sync and view your phonebook contacts online.
They also have a calendar sync feature to sync with Google Calendars.
Worked very well for me.

Thanks angel, art and luro for the tip. I figured that out over the weekend.

The only gripe now is the access point. The Psiloc Connect thing does not work well. Need to see if I am doing something wrong.

Or else, the E71 is going great.

Google Calendar Sync is still left.
