Solar Thermal and Geo thermal not covered in Renewables Australia Fund

Posted by: Suhit Anantula on: June 22, 2009

The Federal government Renewables Australia Fund is not covering the two most promising renewable energy sources for base load power for Australia.

Is this due to design or oversight?

Design, because they will be economically competitive without government support compared to wind, solar panel, solar hot water and biomass.

I would rather see solar thermal and geo thermal being supported in the fund because they have the largest potential for being a credible alternative energy source.

I strongly fear this is by design.

It’s most unsettling these last few weeks to see the solar industry in Australia just establishing itself to be killed so rapidly by a succession of actions by our Government.

Sam,

It is a shame. The US has tax rebates available for geothermal. It males installing the systems very affordable.
